University Club | Palo Alto Wedding

I'm excited to share Angela and Ben's wedding at the Palo Alto University Club! These two were such a sweet couple and their family and friends were a lot of fun to shoot! The ceremony was held at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Menlo Park, which had some beautiful architecture. Angela's gown had gorgeous lace detail, and she rocked her Badgley Mischka shoes! As these two are such big fans of tennis, we took to the courts for some fun couple shots after the ceremony.

The golden hour light for their palo alto wedding was stunning, especially for the portraits at the Palo Alto University Club. Their lawn area has recently been transformed into a gorgeous, lush garden. It's perfect for afternoon light to filter through the trees. On our way back from the garden area we came over the iconic bridge the enters the back of the club. It's surrounded by foliage and the photos of Ben and Angela on that bridge are some of the favorite photos taken this year! Nella Terra Cellars | Livermore Valley Wedding

Jessica and Michael's Livermore Valley wedding at the Nella Terra Cellar was such a sweet and summery affair! They had lots of fun details that reflected their passion for teaching, including cookies displayed in the shape of the periodic table - each one custom-made by AP Sugar Company! The bridesmaids' gorgeous sunflower arrangements beautifully complemented their vibrant blue dresses, and the rolling golden hills of the Livermore Valley were the perfect backdrop for some gorgeous sun-kissed photos!

Landmarks Art and Garden Center | Tiburon Wedding

Dustin and Kara’s intimate garden wedding at the Landmarks Art and Garden Center in Tiburon was truly a stunner! After the couple’s first look, we made our way across the street from the venue to a path at the water’s edge and had a beautiful view of the Bay. The fabulous Mandy Scott of Mandy Scott Events wore many hats that day: florist, coordinator, and even officiant! Later that day, we headed over to the restaurant Epic Steak in San Francisco for the reception and an amazing view of the Bay Bridge. Trione Vineyards and Winery | Jen and Matt

Jen and Matt were married on April 29^th with their ceremony and reception at the Trione Vineyards and Winery. This Trione Winery Wedding was a super stylish event, but more importantly, it was for the best couple ever!

Matt, the groom, is a pilot for Jetblue airlines, so these two jet-set across the country on a regular basis. Matt is based out of Washington, Jen found her gown in New York and they found their venue while wine tasting in Sonoma! As a Bay Area wedding photographer, I love when I have the opportunity to come up here to Sonoma.

For Jen and Matt’s wedding, the day began in a rented home near the vineyard itself. My second shooter and I shot together while the ladies were getting ready. This home was a wonderful place to get ready. Huge windows let the morning light stream in, creating the perfect backdrop for portraits. There were these really cool pieces of art hanging in the house and really nice furnishings. It was such a great way to start off the day before heading to the vineyard.

When we arrived at Trione Winery, we staged a first look for Matt and Jen in the vines. It was such a touching moment when he turned to see his bride. No matter how many first looks I see, it’s still such a special moment when the bride and groom see each other for the first time.

After the first look we took some pictures with the whole bridal party. So… funny story about these pictures. There was this beautiful, weathered bridge that was the epitome of rustic elegance. So, we lined everyone up on the bridge for portraits. As it turns out, half of the shots have the whole group looking down at the river below. This dog, who belonged to one of the winery employees, was down there in the river. He was frolicking, romping, splashing and making a total mess of himself. It was hilarious, but it also created some of the best, most genuine smiles from the whole group. It was awesome.

Trione Winery Wedding Details

Jen had worked closely with her amazing coordinators from Emelina Co to produce some of the most stylish floral arrangements and details. These two coordinators are literally my favorite people to work with in the industry. Not only are they are so much fun, but they do it ALL. The seating arrangement display, the metal card holder, the ring box, the decor, they are seriously super heroes. Not only are they a blast to work with, but they really did an amazing job with Jen and Matt’s wedding.

The couple said their vows in the old brick cellar room, which was transformed with gorgeous floral decorations. Lush greenery hung gracefully from the ceiling, suspended overhead. They were stunning!! The ceremony was the perfect juxtaposition of old and new. Jen and Matt even had a new bottle of wine sealed so it could age and be ready for them to share on their ten year anniversary!

After they said their “I do”s, I stole Matt and Jen away for some portraits. It was easy to capture their love, and the light that filtered through the windows was magical. I loved being able to document their love story. And really, when two people are as happy as this bride and groom, it makes my job easy.

During the reception, the coffee came out with a Miracle Fish for each guest. A Miracle Fish is a trinket that curls in the palm of your hand if you are warm. Depending on the way it curls, it can tell your fortune! This detail was really important to Matt and Jen because the fish were from their favorite restaurant in New York. The bride and groom had them shipped in from NY just to share it with their guests on their wedding day! I love when couples add personal details to their weddings.

The party got started and everyone was out on the dancefloor as the sun went down. Matt has a huge thing for cigars, so despite the chilly temperatures, Matt, Jen and their friends took some time to sneak out in the dark to enjoy cigars together. The way the smoke entwined its way around Matt and Jen was a really cool moment, almost like the smoke was embracing them!

Matt and Jen, thank you so much for asking me to be your wedding photographer. Thank you as well to the amazing team that went into this wedding, especially the coordinators of Trione and Emelina Co. It’s such a joy to be a part of an amazing wedding team, and this wedding was a blast.

Corral De Tierra Country Club Wedding | Allison and John Get Hitched!

Allison and John were married at the Corral De Tierra Country Club on June 3, 2017. As a Bay Area wedding photographer, I usually don't make it all the way down to the Monterey area but I'm so glad that I did! There were some beautiful views from the country club that overlooked the golf course and the Corral De Tierra valley area.

Surrounded by incredible views, the couple said their vows beside the fairway of the eighteenth hole. It made for a spectacular scene and being outdoors for their nuptials made so much sense for this outdoorsy couple.

This was a special couple for me since we had previously shot their engagement and bridal boudoir sessions together. By this point, we were good buddies and it was like attending an old friend's wedding. I love getting that many sessions with the couple and really being able to know what makes them tick! For these two, adventure in nature brings them together!

Redwood Trees in the Afternoon Light | Santa Cruz Engagement Photo Shoot

This one is long overdue and I just had to come back and post it for you! I loved everything about it: the super fun couple, amazing light, rowdy fur babies, rainy redwoods... it all just came together. For a Santa Cruz engagement session it had great weather. Usually Santa Cruz engagement photos are one or the other - overcast or sunny. This time we lucked out because we had lots of different kinds of weather which made for a super fun engagement shoot.

As a Bay Area wedding photographer, I get used to shooting in different weather which can also produce some crazy great lighting scenarios if you're willing to brave the elements, but this one was a fun challenge even for a Bay Area native. I wish I had a behind-the-scenes photo to show off the helpful friend who was holding the umbrella over me while shooting by the river. The sprinkling rain was constant but not insurmountable. Those dogs though! So much energy! :) We had a few unique shots with the dogs hiking up dangerous cliffs and posing randomly on the edge of a steep wall of rock and dirt. So good!

Not only did we have fun in the rain, but it cleared up enough to see the warm sunset light and even go for a quick bike ride. John and Allison were troopers, no, they were instigators! They rocked it! They even did some ballroom dancing for me.

We had such a great time and I can't wait to shoot their wedding soon!

Legion of Honor and Crystal Springs Golf Course Wedding

I'm excited to share these images from this gorgeous Burlingame and SF wedding. We celebrated with tea ceremonies through the morning and then friends and family gathered for the wedding at Crystal Springs Golf Course. There's a beautiful gazebo at the far edge of the golf course that the club uses for weddings. It happens to look out over one of the best views on the SF Peninsula.

We then spent some time at the Legion of Honor and the San Francisco Ferry Building. Check out these great shots from the time with the couple and the bridal party. I can't wait to share more of the photos. Enjoy!

Beautiful Kohl Manson Wedding in Burlingame, CA

TianTian and Brett were married at the gorgeous Kohl Mansion in Burlingame, CA. From top to bottom I love everything about this wedding! Super fun couple, great guests, and a knock out wedding venue. The outdoor area is actually one of my favorites, because it has the grassy knoll where the couple can say their vows in the shade, right next to the patio with a beautiful fountain in the middle. The gardens are also pretty hard to beat. Then you go inside and the location is breathtaking! High vaulted ceilings, big black fireplaces, historic library, and perfectly detailed ballrooms - who wouldn't want to get married here?

Kohl Mansion Wedding Details

This Kohl Mansion wedding was a stunner and the only thing that outshone the venue and details was the bride. TianTian's dress was incredible to behold. Brett's a lucky man and he knows it! The intricacies of the her details, including the dress, shoes, jewelry, table setting, guest book, welcome table, etc, really made the day come together in a way that I thought only happened in the movies. Bay Area Wedding at the Pulgas Water Temple, Redwood City | Lior and Amy

Amy and Lior had an incredible wedding day with perfect weather for an outdoor ceremony. This Redwood City wedding only had about 20 guests which is perfect for intimate conversations and getting to know everyone you're photographing. Small intimate weddings are some of my favorite weddings to shoot because the size of the event opens up so many more Bay Area wedding venues that may never have been an option with larger weddings. This meant that Amy and Lior could have their wedding at the Pulgas Water Temple in Redwood City, one of the most gorgeous locations on the San Francisco peninsula. Berkeley University Club - Wedding at the Berkeley Memorial Stadium

From the top California Memorial Stadium at UC Berkeley you feel like you are on top of the world. Well, at least on top of the San Francisco Bay Area. Kristina and Dan held their beautiful wedding at the Berkeley University Club above the press box of the stadium. The ceremony itself was held on on the ground floor in Goldman Plaza and it was a huge space that had a grand feel to it. The nearby trees where we did the couple's first look also gave it a natural feel. However nothing really compares to the amazing view from the Glass Deck at the top of the stadium. With live music from an amazing ukulele player and an amazing group of guests, the evening took on a fun and electric atmosphere. Thanks for having me join you for your wedding!

Geyserville and Healdsburg have an enormous selection wineries to choose from if you're looking to have a winery wedding. De Lorimier Winery is particularly lovely for smaller parties. I just so happen to love photographing intimate groups in beautiful places - who doesn't? Chris and Jenn's Geyserville wedding had the beautiful views of Alexander Valley. It's an incredible place to soak in warm sunset and it was the perfect place to get married, especially if you're coming from Louisiana like Chris and Jenn. Kera and Nat's Berkeley City Club wedding was spectacular! The girls got ready at the Berkeley City Club while the guys prepped at the Durant Hotel. Both locations had beautiful detailing and architecture making for some lovely photo opportunities. The hotels were a stark contrast to the couple's ceremony location, the redwood grove of the UC Botanical Gardens. In the redwood grove, there's dense tree coverage surrounding a gorgeous open amphitheater. The ceremony was beautiful and we stopped by the large outdoor whale at the Lawrence Hall of Science to overlook the city of Berkeley. It was a true Bay Area wedding with an incredible view to prove it.

The reception at the Berkeley City Club was certainly the highlight of the evening. Good food, friends and family surrounded by all the ambience of one of the best Bay Area wedding venues. Thanks for having me join you on your big day and enjoy these preview photos!

Summer Wedding at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton, CA

Palm Event Center Wedding

Pleasanton weddings are almost always an amazing affair to behold. This gorgeous wedding day at the Palm Event Center was no exception. This lovely venue has a beautiful drive leading up to the main building, but the real magic happens in the banquet hall next to the vineyards.

Cady and Jade's ceremony took place inside the barrel room and it was exquisite. The backdrop of barrels, the parade of chandeliers down the aisle, and the low candle light made for one of the prettiest ceremonies I've ever been fortunate enough to photograph. Everything was perfect from the lawn games, to the toasts, the wild family portraits and even the groom's surprise serenade to his new bride. All of it combined made for a decadent and fun celebration that will go down in history as one of the best!

Calistoga weddings and Healdsburg weddings are some of my favorites to photograph. In fact, Sonoma weddings in general rank as some of the best, in my humble opinion. A Sonoma winery wedding inevitably has an air of casual elegance. It's a lovely mix between breathtaking beauty, sophisticated culture, and California's relaxed persona and style. I love it! I feel completely in my element there and especially when photographing with two wildly fun people like Matt and Wendy.

The laughter began during the getting ready moments and didn't stop until their vintage getaway car roared away down the long Hans Fahden drive. Besides the amazing couple and the awesome wedding party, the best part of the day had to be the barrel room which was actually a long underground corridor. In fact, for all intents and purposes, it was a T-shaped cave that went deep into the hillside. What an amazing place to have a dinner reception with all the people you love and adore. I can't thank the couple enough for being so great and for having me join them on their ridiculously fun wedding day.

Wedding at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn

Henry and Kristen's oceanside wedding was absolutely gorgeous. From the moment we starting shooting at the Intercontinental Clement Monterey, we had no shortage of beauty to photograph. Her lovely makeup, Vera Wang dress and Cartier jewelry were a pretty good start, but the breathtaking view of the Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn overlooking the ocean during the ceremony was incredible and left me speechless (which is hard to do)! What a great day and with so many fun people to share it with, it made for a perfect wedding day!

Garden Court Hotel | Mike and Kami's Palo Alto Wedding

A Stunning Garden Court Hotel Wedding

Kami and Mike's Palo Alto wedding took place in some of the prettiest Bay Area wedding venues on the San Francisco peninsula. The ladies got ready at the Garden Court Hotel, where the reception would later take place. Then we made our way over to the Elizabeth Gamble Gardens for the couple's first look. I can't think a more gorgeous location to take garden portraits. The wedding ceremony was at stunning St. Thomas Aquinas church, then back to the Garden Court Hotel to party with friends and family.

Mike and Kami were a perfect couple to photograph with and I can't wait to share the rest of their photos. In the meantime, enjoy these teaser shots!

Last week's wedding at the Piedmont Community Church was one of the most fun weddings I've shot in a long while! There is something about an amazing wedding party that can really define the wedding day experience. As an East Bay wedding photographer, I get to see lots of different wedding parties and this group was definitely one of my favorites! When friendship is so deeply entrenched in love and loyalty, it's hard not see the fruits of that come through in the photos. The same goes for the bride and groom. Daniel and Ariella were a hoot to photograph and their love for one another was apparent by their infectious laughter. Here are a few favorites from the day and I can't wait to share the rest!

Portola Valley Estate Wedding | Aaron and Marcia's Backyard Wedding Teaser

As a San Francisco wedding photographer, sometimes a backyard wedding can mean tight spaces with limited photo opportunities. This is why coming down to Portola Valley for this casually elegant backyard wedding was a true delight. Aaron and Marcia held their wedding at the home of one of Marcia's family friends. The home was the perfect setting for the bride and groom's relaxed atmosphere. The nuptials were in the front garden while the reception was held in the backyard. Lush gardens covered the entire property and they were perfect for couple portraits later in the day.

The evening was such a blast! Cocktail hour glided easily into a gourmet dinner while drinks and dancing punctuated the night. Bay Area wedding photographers like me love shooting with such amazing clients in such gorgeous locations. Monterey Wedding at Lover's Point and Cannery Row | Annie and Diana

This Monterey wedding was an absolute joy to photograph! The best part was spending time with fantastic people and the constant laughter that filled the day. The location didn't hurt either. Annie and Diana's wedding at Lover's Point Park in Monterey, CA was a breathtaking view and an incredible sweetness to it. They emphasized the meaning of the occasion rather than the formalities of a typical wedding day. It was a honor to see these two beautiful woman embrace their lives together as one along with all the happiness and challenges that will come with it.

The wedding day started by capturing their preparations in a gorgeous house in Pacific Grove. The place was perfect for getting ready separately on different floors so as not to see each other before the ceremony. Soon we made our way over to Berwick Park for wedding portraits. The long grasses by the cliffs were amazing to photograph in and the views were spectacular. The actual ceremony took place at Lover's Point Park by the beach with the crashing waves giving everything a storybook feel. After snapping some shots with the couple on the beach at Lover's Point, we met up with the wedding party for the reception at Wave Street Studios on Cannery Row.

Half Moon Bay Engagement Photos | Daniel and Ari's Teaser

Redwood tree engagement photos can be the most dramatic shots with the tall trees reaching to the heavens. However the colors of a fading sunset over a sandy beach certainly rival the beauty found in the redwoods. Instead of choosing one or the other, we choose a location that had both nearby. I say that as if it were all my choice, but in reality, Daniel chose the beautiful Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve as the memorable place to propose to Ari, so this became our engagement shoot location as well. Way to go, Daniel!

We spent half of our Bay Area engagement session taking photos among the redwoods and the other half playing down by beach in Half Moon Bay. Take a look at these teaser photos and I can't wait to share the rest!

Geyserville Wedding at Trione Winery - Teaser

Yesterday's wedding was nothing short of fantastic! We started at the H2 Hotel in downtown Geyserville for the getting ready photos. It was a perfect starting point with it's stylish furnishings and elegant decor. The ceremony followed at the United Church of Cloverdale, but most of the day was spent at Trione Vineyards and Winery. Trione Winery held the large reception in its huge banquet hall which featured a beautiful central staircase - perfect for the couple's entrance as they were being announced.

Paul and Joy were probably the best couple ever! They were awesome through the entire day and soon I'll have the music video that was created from their reception introductions. Yes. You read that right. They made a music video when they entered the reception. With only one take, they produced a music video that would take them to each of their guests' tables with a montage of amazing songs. I've never seen anything like it before and I can't wait to share the video from the amazing videographer. Until then, enjoy these teaser shots from the day and there's more coming soon.

Berkeley Engagement Photos at Caesar Chavez Park and the UC Redwood Grove

Yesterday's engagement shoot was a complete success and an absolute joy! Wonderful couple, amazing light, perfect locations and ideal weather conditions. In fact, I've never taken photos at Berkeley's Caesar Chavez Park when they hasn't been blustery wind. So despite the cold temperatures, it was a perfect day to shoot. We could easily see all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge.

We went from the UC Botanical Garden redwood grove where they would usually have a wedding ceremony, and made our way down to the Berkeley marina, where Caesar Chavez park's view is unrivaled. Here are few teaser photos with Dan and Kristina during our "engagement shoot journey".

Wente Winery Wedding - Smith Teaser

Wente Winery was the perfect backdrop to Sylvia and Joe's wedding. They are the sweetest couple and their love was apparent from the moment I saw them together. Their Autumn wedding was the perfect mix of classic elegance amidst a comfortable family reunion. The leaves were turning fiery colors on the grape vines and the rolling hills provided an epic scenery of these two love birds to proclaim their love. Backyard Garden Ceremony - San Carlos Wedding | Teaser

Shirley and Sean were married in the beautiful hills of San Carlos, CA. However, it wasn't your typical San Carlos wedding. They chose to get married in the groom's father's home and as a result, this backyard wedding was anything but traditional. With a pebble bottom pool at the center and lush greenery surrounding them, the ceremony was stunning! The food was phenomenal, the DJ was great, and the couple were troopers. We went on an outing to find some nearby scenery to change it up and the not-so-short hike was well worth it. As a bay area photographer, I'm always in search of the best locations and lighting and thankfully my couples are likeminded. I loved shooting with Shirley and Sean and can't wait to share the rest of the photos.

Muir Woods and Muir Beach Engagement | Teaser

I'll bet my weekend was better than yours. :) Saturday took me to some of the most gorgeous locations California has to offer with two of the most awesome people I've ever met. They were tons of fun to shoot with and up for anything.

Muir woods engagement photos were a challenge only because the Muir Woods National Monument was such a popular destination. We had to get off the beaten trail where fewer hikers were seen, but I can't think of a prettier place to go hiking. We took the hill trail which found us walking among the redwood giants - absolutely stunning.

After the redwood trees awed us, we headed out to the nearby Muir Beach. A little wine, a couple of glasses and daring dog named Vader made for a perfect outing! Check out these Muir Beach engagement photos and I can't wait to share more with you soon!

What an elegant affair! The Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club was the perfect place for these two love birds to tie the knot. Stanford Memorial Church Wedding | Teaser

Yesterday's wedding was such an incredible event. Few Bay Area wedding venues rival the majesty of Stanford Memorial Church as shown in the first photograph. The beauty of the wedding vows matched the beauty of the church and laughter fills every little corner of the day. There was wonderful attention to detail throughout the day including a few wedding details I'd never seen before. There were DIY paper bouquets in the shape of puppies, plus actual puppy-shaped flower bouquets, and of course there were the puppies themselves.

After our time in the church, we made sure to spend some time on Stanford campus. As they entered the reception at the Palo Alto Sheraton, the resulting choreography was amazing! (photos to come later)

Sunol Wedding Teaser | Nella Terra Cellars

I feel as if I just photographed a dear friend's wedding. I love that feeling, as it points to a connection with a couple that goes deeper than the photographs. This couple's joy for one another was contagious. Nestled into the hills of Sunol in the East Bay, Nella Terra Cellars had a beautiful space for their wedding with vineyards, rolling hills, gardens, and an elegant white marque tent for the post-nuptial celebrations.

Sarah and Feras' Bay Area wedding was decked out with gorgeous details, which all tied together beautifully. The embroidery on the bride's dress matched her jewelry; her nail color matched his bow tie, which matched his custom french cuffs, which matched his socks. The yellow and gray theme ran through the reception table decor as well and made for a stunning party. But my favorite part was catching the afternoon light so often sought in Californian weddings.I hope you enjoy these teaser photos as much as I enjoyed making them.

Calamigos Ranch Wedding in Malibu, CA | Teaser

What an amazing wedding to be a part of. This southern California wedding was so much fun and everyone involved was amazing to work with. Although the day was warm, nothing could lower the spirits of this amazing couple. Ryan and Aimee were constantly laughing and that laughter trickled down to their wedding party and guests. As a wedding photographer, I'm always thrilled when laughter is a main theme for a wedding. It brings out natural smiles and entertaining moments making the day incredibly enjoyable to shoot. What a joy it was to shoot Louis and Kaitlin's wedding. San Anselmo Church was a quaint little church with lovely character. The old wood and stained glass windows mirrored the traditions and texts chosen to bind the couple in marriage. After the ceremony, they jumped into their classic car to join their guests for the reception at the San Geronimo Golf Course. Berkeley Memorial Stadium Wedding - Teaser

With Berkeley Memorial Stadium, there is no bad area to shoot in. From the incredible Bay Area views on the deck, to the 50 yard line, everything is striking and picturesque. Add a beautiful couple to the mix and you can't go wrong. These two were married on the Stadium plaza out front with the reception to follow at the top of the stadium in the glass walled press box. San Francisco Engagement at the Golden Gate Bridge and Legion of Honor | Teaser Post

If you know me, then you know I love to laugh. This little trait helps me thoroughly enjoy photographing couples. The real magic happens when the couple loves laughter just as much as I do. When this happens I find myself smiling so much that I can feel my cheeks pushing up against the back of the camera as I shoot and laugh with them. Simply put, it's wonderful. That was how I felt with Sarah and Feras this weekend. We shot their engagement session at two of the most iconic spots in San Francisco - The Golden Gate Bridge and the Legion of Honor. The clouds by the bridge helped us show off the cool and foggy nature of a true San Francisco summer, but thankfully the sun finally came out when we got to the Legion of Honor. What a treat it was to laugh and play with the two of them. I loved their joy for life and their impeccable style. Maui Beach Wedding | Hawaii Wedding Teaser

Today's teaser comes to you from my portable office in Maui, Hawaii. I may or may not have spent all day next to the pool and going down water slides with my son. All that fun in the sun aside, I was finally able to sit down with some of yesterday's wedding photos. Crystal and Lance traveled with all their family and loved ones to celebrate their wedding nuptials on Maui's Wailea Beach. The sand was hot and so was their love! Portola Valley Presbyterian Church Wedding | Mickey and Sabrina's Teaser

Surrounded by redwood trees, Portola Valley Presbyterian Church made for a scenic ceremony. East Bay Engagement Session | Lake Chabot with Yi and Kailyn

I shot an engagement shoot this weekend with a lovely couple, Yi and Kailyn, at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, CA. We started in the main picnic area but with the beautiful weather, the grounds were packed with people. After a few shots, we left the main area and went wandering up in the hills. What a thrill it was to photograph among the high grasses and gorgeous trees.

The iconic image that summed up this session for me was made when we came across large ancient-looking tree with a sideways reaching limbs as long as a bus. It made a perfect canopy to shoot under. Check out the final images below.

Garden Court Hotel Wedding, Palo Alto | Cedric and Christina's Wedding

Nine years of courting culminated in this beautiful Palo Alto wedding. Christina and Cedric held their wedding at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto – a gorgeous building located right off of the main boulevard in Palo Alto, near to Stanford University. This hotel has a unique mix of styles, with quaint little ivy covered nooks, stunning balconies, and elegant décor.

As a wedding photographer, I always like it when the couple and their family are easy-going. So let’s just say that I loved working with Cedric and Christina. Everyone was ready ahead of time, which gave us plenty of time to rearrange the furniture in the suite and take some great photos before family members arrived. The first item on the agenda was a traditional tea ceremony, a perfect opportunity for the bride and groom to not only honor their family, but also for them to receive gifts and congratulations as they enter into marriage.

Photographing in the heart of the Palo Alto downtown was gorgeous, but it came with a unique set of challenges. Being centrally located meant that the location was fairly busy, with a restaurant full of people on the ground floor. As this area was where some of the best shooting spots were, we had to get creative. We played with the columns to stay out of sight of the crowds, and retreated to the outside façade to prevent being accosted with hugs from loved ones arriving for the ceremony.

There were, in fact, so many family members and guests that we had two sessions of family portraits – both equally amazing! However, with so many loved ones to see, tea ceremony to host, and portrait sessions to rock, it was amazing that Cedric and Christina could even walk by the time that they arrived at the reception! Despite all of this busyness, the day was in no way stressful. The crowd was relaxed and ready to party (check out the flip photos at the end of this post!). Congratulations to Christina and Cedric – all the best to you in your marriage!

Crissy Fields and Sutro Baths | Mickey and Sabrina's San Francisco Engagement

Ni-8692 Spontaneity is an ingredient often overlooked in engagement sessions. As a wedding photographer, I spend so much time planning the shot and preparing for the day, I sometimes forget to let go and see what kind of images are produced when the shot list isn't over scheduled.

Mickey and Sabrina's San Francisco engagement was planned for the iconic Crissy Fields and Sutro Baths. Like any good San Francisco wedding photographer, I have photographed these locations many times, but something about this shoot was different. Maybe it was the fact that they chose to wear their wedding day attire for the shoot, or perhaps it was the creative ideas that the couple brought with them. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was definitely an excited vibe to the day.

Mickey and Sabrina were wonderful to work with. They had done their own homework on how to pose and were amazing at taking what little direction I needed to give. Combining this with the day's spontaneity and the beautiful weather, we were able to get photographs like the ones of the golden light streaming through the trees. As we drove from Crissy Fields to the Sutro baths, we saw an awesome wooded grove with sunlight shining through. We made a sharp u-turn and started exploring. This would throw us off schedule, but I listened to my instinct to follow the light and captured some of my favorite shots of the day. Little did we know that this would also give us the perfect light when we arrived at the Sutro Baths.

The Sutro Baths were as beautiful as always and the lighting couldn't have been better. Mickey and Sabrina had seen a silhouette shot I'd taken previously and they wanted to create their own version of it on the seawall. I agreed but the whole time I was nervous that they would crash into the water on one side or fall onto the rocks on the other. Thankfully their feet remained steady and the shot we produced took our breath away. Mickey and Sabrina were amazing, and I can't wait to shoot their wedding later this month. Westerbeke Ranch Wedding | Nolan and Andi's Sonoma Wedding Teaser

Nolan and Andi's wedding was one of the classiest weddings I've shot in recent memory. With a playful wedding party, a gorgeous couple, and elegant venue, it just doesn't get any better.

As a wedding photographer in the bay area, I periodically shoot in a new location that takes my breath away. Tucked away in Sonoma wine country, Westerbeke Ranch is a gorgeous wedding venue with plenty of natural ambiance and elegance.

The day started with one of the sweetest first looks I've ever been fortunate enough to witness. She was dazzling in her wedding dress and veil and he was perfect in his response - utterly speechless. The same magic of their first look punctuated the rest of the day with lovely moments and emotional tears. Here are just a few teaser shots and I can't wait to share the rest with you.

Lake Chabot Engagement Shoot Teaser | Yi and Kailyn

I did an engagement shoot this weekend with a lovely couple, Yi and Kailyn, at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, CA. We started in the main flat area but with it being such a beautiful weekend, the grounds were packed with people, picnics and parties. So we left the main area and went wandering up in the hills. Gorgeous Baby Portraits | San Mateo

This post is a real treat to share with you. As a Bay Area wedding photographer, I rarely get to photograph tiny babies, not to mention their amazing parents. My wife and I recently had our second child and some friends had their daughter at about the same time. It was fun to see their family in the same stage of life as my own family. I was able to join them one day and take a peak at their morning routine. Their daughter is incredibly sweet and made taking baby pictures a breeze. With such an expressively cute face, it was hard not to put the camera down and simply coo back at her. Thankfully old habits die hard and we snapped away all morning and came out with some adorable baby portraits. Congrats again to my very proud friends for their beautiful little girl!

Oh, and did I mention that she has AMAZING hair?

Garden Court Hotel Wedding, Palo Alto | Cedric and Christina's Wedding Teaser

What a fantastic day I had with Cedric and Christina on their wedding day. This wedding was nine years in the making - NINE YEARS! But they made it to the alter and it was a beautiful day to be a part of.

The venue for their wedding was the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto. It was a gorgeous building located right off the main drag of Palo Alto that leads into Stanford University. The hotel had cute little corners, arches, and balconies to shoot in which make the work of a wedding photographer so much nicer. Bay area wedding venues are plentiful but this one had the perfect combination: central location, beautiful details, and a great staff.

With everything that Cedric and Christina packed into their wedding day, it's amazing that they could walk by the time they arrived at the reception. Although busy, it was in no way stressful. Their wedding day was loaded with family and friends who wanted to celebrate with them and celebrate they did. Sutro Baths and Crissy Fields Engagement Teaser | San Francisco, CA

I had such a blast shooting with Mickey and Sabrina this week for their San Francisco engagement. The best part about it is that we shouldn't have any of these images at all. Any Bay Area wedding photographer knows that when you schedule a San Francisco engagement, there is always the possibility of having to reschedule due to bad weather. The problem is that Mickey and Sabrina were only town for this week and they were leaving on a jet plane on Friday and of course the weekend we originally scheduled the shoot for, it poured down with rain. Thank goodness, in true California fashion, later that week the skies parted and gave way to sunny weather in the mid seventies. Perfect for a city engagement shoot.

They chose to wear their wedding day attire for the shoot and don't they look stunning?! Check out the rest of these teaser shots and I can't wait to share more.

The Golden Gate Bridge photos were just the beginning. As we made our way from Crissy Fields over to the Sutro Baths, we came upon a section of trees beside the road that just screamed to be photographed. We turned the cars around and went back and I'm incredibly glad we did. These forest engagement photos with the light through the trees made for some of the most fun and creative photo opportunities.

We finally made it the Sutro Baths and right in time for the sunset. What a gorgeous location! It has to be one of my favorites to shoot in all of San Francisco simply because there's no where else like it. The iconography of the pools connect you with the past while making new photographs for the future. I love it!

This close up portrait is pretty much straight out of camera. The sunlight bursting past his head and the warm glow on their skins was even more striking in person.

Fremont Wedding Palmdale Estates | Jessica and Shane's Wedding Teaser

Golden Gate Park Wedding in Shakespeare Garden | Teaser

Tony and Sanna's beautiful garden wedding could not have been more stunning. A San Francisco wedding cannot ask for better weather than what they had on their wedding day. This lovely couple surrounded themselves with amazingly fun friends and my team felt welcomed into the celebration as if we were invited guests!

After the ceremony, we went for a spin around the fountain and amphitheater near the California Academy of Sciences and De Young Museum. We had some competition with the Blue Angels flying over for the San Francisco Fleet Week, but it just added to the wonder of the day.

Sanna changed into a stunning red dress for the reception that really pulled in the traditional Chinese elements with a modern twist. Can't wait to share the rest!

San Francisco City Hall Wedding and SF City Club Reception

This wedding took place in the breathtaking rotunda of San Francisco City Hall. Even as a a native SF wedding photographer, I'm still always blown away by City Hall's incredible architecture. City Hall set the tone for their wedding day because after their vows we spent some time gallivanting in a classic San Francisco trolley. We made our way to Knob Hill and then over to Embarcadero to capture their love by the Bay Bridge. I always enjoy shooting city weddings but this one was exceptionally gorgeous. The bride wore a Vera Wang dress made her look stunning as is it rippled in the wind that whipped past us on the roof of the Stock Exchange Tower where the Reception was held. With their cocktail hour and reception at the San Francisco City Club, the newlyweds celebrated their union in the height of elegance. Thank you so much for having me join in the celebration!

Northbay Wedding | Dan and Tiffany Get Hitched!

Dan and Tiffany's vineyard wedding was stunning! There were so many lovely details to photograph - the assorted glass jars, rustic barns, vintage farmhouse, gorgeous flowers, and the ever-shining California sun. Dan and Tiffany said their vows while overlooking the beautiful blue pond at Testa Vineyards in Ukiah, CA. Surrounded by loved ones the couple had a the type of guests who, in Tiffany's words, "have a low dance threshold." The guests were on the dance floor before dinner was even finished. Fantastic food, lovely views, and perfect details made for a memorable evening reception.

Dan and Tiffany were awesome. They are the kind of folks who are always thinking about the comfort of their guests before their own. Jenni & Gabe's Wedding | Berkeley Memorial Stadium

Jenni and Gabe's marriage vows made history from the plaza of Berkeley's Memorial Stadium. They are the first couple to ever have their nuptials held at the UC Berkeley's football stadium! Given the Stadium's recent gorgeous renovations, it's not hard to see this venue becoming one of the hottest in the Bay Area. From the entryway plaza, to the Cal student cheering section, and up to the banquet room above the press box, the stadium is a stunning piece of architecture and an ideal place to get married.

Surrounding by loved ones, Jenni and Gabe tied the knot amidst the dramatic scenery of the stadium's lush plaza. The recessional's confetti poppers fueled the party atmosphere and fanned everyone's excitement. The couple's energy was electric and we had an amazing time photographing all over the stadium.

The bride and groom rendezvoused with their friends and family at the reception which was located at the very top of the stadium's press box. The banquet hall was a long room with walls of windows that ran the length of both sides. You could look out one side to see the Cal football field or go to balcony side to experience the jaw-dropping view of the bay. The only obstructions to the view were the Berkeley International House's beautiful dome and Berkeley's iconic Campanile.

The reception included hula dancing from young family members, eloquent toasts, (my favorite) raucous bouquet and garter tosses! The crowd really "threw" themselves into the festivities. Thanks so much for making me a part of the celebration!

Tiburon Lyford House and Corinthian Yacht Club Wedding Teaser

In the beautiful setting of Tiburon's coastline, Rekha and Michael's nuptials were among the prettiest I've witnessed. Their culturally Indian ceremony was led by a Hindu priest who also explained each Hindu sacrament in plain English. This set the tone for the day. Many of the couple's ideas and plans were geared towards helping others and even during the reception, they were caught just soaking in the lovely atmosphere of a live band, waterside venue, and all their loved ones in a single room. It is apparent to all who know them, that Rekha and Michael care deeply for one another and for their community.

The details of their day blew me away. The beautiful flowers (www.mandyscottflowers.com), the gorgeous traditional attire, and the breath-taking venue made this one of my favorite weddings of the year!

Berkeley City Club Wedding | Dan and Paige's Wedding Teaser

This was such an exciting wedding to shoot. Confession time for Evan. I actually LOVED shooting this wedding. As a busy bay area wedding photographer, I rarely get the chance to shoot a friend's wedding, not to mention a close friend. I've known Dan, the groom, since college. In fact, he introduced me to the woman who would later become my lovely wife. So needless to say, this wedding was a treat for me to be a part of. Even if the couple lacked that personal history with me, their wedding would still have been a blast.

Dan and Paige got ready at the Berkeley City Club and then had their first look on the UC Berkeley campus. Their wedding ceremony was in the glass-walled sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley. The couple surprised their guests by having the Cal Berkeley Marching Band greet everyone outside on the church's sanctuary patio. The couple's exit strategy included the blaring horns and crashing cymbals of the best marching band on earth (yes, that's a completely biased statement, GO BEARS!).

Their reception at the Berkeley City Club was punctuated by classic decor, amazing music, and incredible people. We took advantage of the City Club's stunning architecture and ambiance. The library made a perfect backdrop for a vogue-styled group portrait while the garden lent its quite corners to romantic couple shots. Patrick and MaryAnn are not your average couple. They are extraordinary in every way. Their wedding party reflected their incredible devotion to deep relationships while their ceremony location summoned a peacefulness that only God's creation can impart. Their reception had some of the best speeches I've ever heard and the ethos of the celebration was one of joyful abandon.

Cathy and Hansen had their wedding at the stunningly located Thomas Fogarty Winery overlooking the whole Bay Area. The vista was gorgeous and the details were exquisite. Carolyn and Becca celebrated their union with friends and family. In fact, their wedding day was much more than that. It was also a party celebrating their twin boys' first birthday. So, there is lots to celebrate and be thankful for. Becca and Carolyn said their vows at the Women's Club of Palo Alto. There was a candy table, photo booth, live music, and amazing food. Before the party, we visited the Elizabeth Gamble Gardens with the boys. What a wonderful day!

First Ever Wedding at Berkeley Memorial Stadium | Teaser

Jenni and Gabe's marriage vows made history this weekend from Berkeley's Memorial Stadium plaza. They are the first couple to ever be married at the UC Berkeley's football stadium and in light of it's gorgeous renovation there will likely be many more. From the plaza, to the Cal student cheering section, to the banquet room above the press box, the stadium is a stunning place to get married.

Surrounding by loved ones, Jenni and Gabe tied the knot amidst the trees of the stadium plaza. The recessional's confetti poppers fueled the party atmosphere and fanned everyone's excitement. Their energy was electric and we had an amazing time photographing all over the stadium.

The bride and groom rendezvoused with their friends and family at the reception which was located at the top of the stadium above the press box. The banquet hall was a long room with walls of windows ran the length of both sides. You could look out one side to see the Cal football field or go to balcony side to experience the jaw-dropping view of the bay. The only obstructions to the view are the International House's beautiful dome and Berkeley's iconic Campanile.

Sausalito Wedding | Mary and Andrew's Wedding

I love these two! The laughter and fun that followed Andrew and Mary throughout the day was phenomenal! They are the kind of people that just make your heart happy. As a wedding photographer, I've noticed that by looking at the wedding party, you can get a pretty good sense of the character of the bride and groom and this was a pretty impressive wedding party. Their day started at Sausalito Presbyterian Church for the ceremony - a gorgeous little church with wood interior. That was followed by the reception at the incredible Spinnaker Restaurant at the water's edge with a beautiful view over the Bay.

You also have to check out the butterfly photos! With a little help, Mary and Andrew released symbolic butterflies after the ceremony during a private moment. It was a privilege to be a part of such a meaningful ceremony before we took a stroll along the water next to the Spinnaker.

The view from the Spinnaker was breathtaking. There was good food, lovely dances, and hilarious toasts. I'm so grateful to be a part of Andrew and Mary's wedding day. Congratulations to you both!

What a fabulously fun day! Spunky people, amazing details, and a great location. In the heart of Marin County, Eric and Jennifer were married at the Marin Art and Garden Center. The day was gorgeous and everything dripped with personality. This couple loves their games, so every table was themed with a board game. What an amazing photoshoot I had with Jessica and Shane. We did some engagement photos at Alum Rock Park, in San Jose, CA and the afternoon was perfect. They are die hard Sharks hockey fans so there was definitely a color theme in mind. There were hockey jerseys, pucks, and sticks, save-the-date signs, bridal sun glasses, and Jessica even brought her dad's classic 60's Ford Mustang. Who could have asked for me.

There couldn't possibly have been a prettier day for two of the prettiest brides. Jill and Katie were married at Elizabeth Gamble Gardens of Palo Alto, CA. The crowd was full of some of the most hilarious folks and I found myself enjoying their company immensely. As a wedding photographer, it's always a treat to spend the afternoon with lovely and fun people. It makes the job so much more enjoyable! Leon and Maria had a beautiful wedding! With lovely vows and colorful floral arrangements, the day was an incredibly joyous occasion. Friends and family came from all over to celebrate with the newly weds long into the evening. The only hiccup was the weather with rain, rain, and more rain. After a week of downpour, the clouds parted just long enough for us to stretch our legs after Leon and Maria's ceremony to snap some quick photos at the park. Their wedding was at the nearby Palo Alto Women's Club, so we dashed out while the sun was briefly shining. Here are a few shots from our quick trip to the park. Enjoy and there's more to come.

San Francisco Engagement Session | Dan and Paige

Boy, oh boy! These two are cute! Dan and Paige's engagement session may just bring forth an audible AWWW or, if we're lucky, there might even be a squeal. In the words of Mr. Rogers, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood - the San Francisco Presidio neighborhood, to be exact. We started in the Palace of Fine Arts with its gorgeous architecture. Then we moved away from the crowds and followed the sun to the edge of the Presidio. Immigrant Point Overlook had a majestic view of the setting sun with steps leading down to Baker Beach. It was a race against time and we didn't quite make it to the beach but it worked to our advantage since it meant we had the sunset all to ourselves. I love how the colors of their clothes go so well with the sunset's orange and red hues. What a sweet afternoon it was with Dan and Paige. I can't wait for their wedding!

Mountain Winery Wedding in Saratoga, CA | Amy + Rocky

Amy and Rocky's wedding was elegance personified. Their day began in the enchanting rooms under the Mountain Winery's Banquet Hall. The girls got ready in different colored kimono robes while the guys had clips of their favorite comedies projecting on the wall. There were libations, traditions, flowers and tons of laughter.

The family and wedding party congregated in the Mountain Winery's amphitheater for portraits - the same place where great musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald, Ringo Starr, Stevie Wonder, ZZ Top, and so many other famous artists have performed through the decades. Contemporary artists also play at the Mountain Winery; artists such as OneRepbulic, Gavin DeGraw with Colbie Callait, and even Justin Bieber himself.

As the day progressed and the couple said their vows, the light slowly receded behind the Saratoga hills. It made for incredible ambiance as the couple strolled through the winter grapevines. Even with all the excitement from the day, photographing the couple's first moments as husband and wife had a quiet peace to it. I felt grateful to be witness to this sacred time, because soon after they were rushed into their reception with the kind of wild crowd that only a rock-n-roll venue can inspire.

Destination Wedding in Melbourne, Australia

Tons of people have posted photos from their archives with #Tbt or #throwbackthursday. I love seeing old photos from people's childhoods, moments from when they were in college, or photos from their wedding. The wedding photography photos that people post are my favorites for obvious reasons and this got me thinking. I personally gravitate towards destination weddings when choosing who/what to follow online or read about. So I figured, why not share a photo from the first destination wedding that I ever shot.

As a Bay Area wedding photographer, it's not every day that I get to travel to exotic lands to document the blessed event of marriage, so this trip made quite a splash! I had the privilege of photographing this wonderful couple for their wedding in Melbourne, Australia in 2009. The wedding took place on a working farm and then continued the celebration at a nearby hall. These are only two of my favorites, but maybe I can share a few more in future #throwbackthursdays.

New York Skyline

Last October, my wife and son flew out with me to New York. While visiting my uncle, we had the good fortune to watch the sunrise from our bedroom. Being a Bay Area photographer, I'm accustomed to taking skyline photos at sunset. It's not everyday that I get to rise with the sun and be clear headed enough to fumble with my camera (not a morning person). Looking back at the photos, I found myself missing New York and wanted to share a couple of the moments that really made the trip for me.

I took this first skyline shot right before running out the door to battle rush hour subway traffic.

It seems to me that Andrew and Mary have a fun time doing just about anything. For their engagement session, we tromped around the Palace of Fine Arts and then made it over to Crissy Fields for the sunset by the Golden Gate bridge. A very San Franciscan photo shoot. They have big plans for their North Bay wedding this Spring and I can't wait to photograph it. Enjoy these photos from our day out on the town.
