About Our Photography

Why do you (Evan) love shooting weddings?

We love shooting weddings for the passion and challenge of it. They are never simple, slow, and easy, and I love that! I love shooting different types of photography all within the space of 8 hours: portrait, photojournalism, landscape, macro, motion and blur, silhouettes, indoor, outdoor, windy, wet, noon sun and golden sunset light. It's always a challenge and you have to be master of it all. However, technical challenge of weddings is not enough to keep me shooting it for as long as I have. It's the passion, beauty, significance and joy of a wedding celebration that I love so much. There is nothing in the world as incredible to photograph than the beginning of two separate lives becoming one.

What is your shooting style?

We like to define our style by the emotion we are capturing; love, excitement, joy. We are passionate about what we are invited to do during a wedding celebration and the style of images can be called elegance and authentic. We take a photojournalistic approach to the ceremony and reception coverage while using a more directive style during portraiture. This helps us capture raw emotion of events as they unfold and bring out your best side during any of the photo sessions.

What is a "photojournalistic" style?

This is referring to a style of photography where the photographers are documenting an event as it unfolds with little intervention, if any at all. This lets the photographer be a fly on the wall to capture real emotion and candid moments. This also means that the images are often not 100% perfect. There are things about the photos that could not have been staged or directed and that's all part of telling the story. We employ this style of photography most heavily during the ceremony and the reception.

What is a "directive" style?

This is a style of photography where the photographers are directing the subjects to produce a specific photograph. Unlike the photojournalistic approach, being directive means that we'll jump in to fix a detail, help you adjust your body to look your best, and remove undesirable elements from the scene to create a moment or evoke a certain emotion. This is particularly useful when taking portraits of the couple and their wedding party. Since most of our clients have never been married before, this is their first time getting married and positioning themselves for photographs can be challenging. So that's when the seasoned photographer can jump in and help direct the couple or group to look amazing!

Before We Work Together

Are two photographers better than one?

Generally yes. It provides better event coverage with multiple perspectives, opposed to only one. There are certainly times when a second shooter is not necessary depending on event size, number of location, preference of style, etc. Lets chat about it to determine what's best for your wedding.

How do you select your second shooters?

We work with a short list of experienced photographers who all have their own photography business and shoot as a primary photographer for their own weddings. Another way we choose photographers to work with is whether they are super fun (because we end up spending a lot of time together) and whether we would feel comfortable with them capturing memories at our own wedding.

Ack! What if you're sick on my wedding day?

We haven't missed a single wedding since we started in 2007. However, God forbid something were to happen, we would rely on our list of second shooters to provide excellent, trustworth photographic coverage on your wedding. Remember, we partner with photographers with this in mind. That's why they also need to be seasoned primary photographers for their own weddings AND we'd feel comfortable with them shooting our own wedding.

Are you insured?

Absolutely. We are happy to provide a Certificate of Insurance for your wedding venue if they require it.

Should I do an engagement session?

Heck yes you should! Not just because it results in gorgeous photos that you can use for your save-the-dates, invitations, wedding decor, and guest sign-in book. The engagement session also serves as practice for the wedding day. It's a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and get comfortable with how to produce an awesome photograph together. This is no small thing. On the wedding day, there are a million things to be thinking about and it can't be overstated how helpful it can be (to both the couple and the photographer) to be familiar with how to create a great image together.

How will you know which photos are important to me?

We will have a shared google doc where we go over tons of details and even build out your wedding day timeline. This is your chance to share anything and everything that is the most important to you for your wedding day. Since we can't read minds (yet!), we rely on this document to help us prioritize certain shots and get fully on board with your vision for your wedding. We'll schedule a consultation to go over the document and finalize your timeline together.

How do I get my photos after the wedding? And when should I expect them?

You'll get an online gallery no later than 8-12 weeks from your wedding date.

Can I see all the photographs that were taken?

We click the shutter thousands of time during a wedding day. As part of our photography service, we go through the images and select the best photos from each series for final editing. don't simply send you all the photos that were taken. That would actually be unprofessional of us. If that's what you're looking for, you may want to ask your cousin, Billy. I hear he has a great camera. JK. Kinda.

How many photo will we get from the wedding day?

The final amount of photos that we deliver can vary greatly depending on hours of coverage, number of photographers, travel time, etc. However, generally you can expect about 75-100 images per hour. So for 8 hours of coverage with two photographers we'll usually deliver 700-800 images.

How will the photos be edited?

The photos will be edited for image exposure, coloring, composition, white balance, noise, sharpening, etc.

What file format will the images by delivered in?

High resolution JPG files. We do not provide RAW files, that would be crazy-talk.

Will we always have access to the online gallery?

You're online gallery will be available for as long we are in business. (Psssst, we have no intention of slowing down!)

Can we order prints?

Yes! You can share your online gallery with friends and family and they order prints directly from the gallery. Online orders ship globally accepting major credit cards and paypal in USD, GBP, and EUR.

Can we get prints and albums as well?

Absolutely! Prints can be ordered and shipped globally. Albums are custom-made so let us know!

Do you have any recommendations on coordinators, florists, Makeup artists, videographers, etc?

Yep! Just ask us! We'll share them!

What to Expect on the Wedding Day

What kind of planning goes into the wedding day?

We will have a shared google doc where we go over tons of details and even build out your wedding day timeline. This is your chance to share anything and everything that is the most important to you for your wedding day. Since we can't read minds (yet!), we rely on this document to help us prioritize certain shots and get fully on board with your vision for your wedding. We'll schedule a consultation to go over the document and finalize your timeline together.

What happens if we get behind schedule?

We try to include some wiggle room in the timeline, but if the day is ever running behind, we'll do everything we can get you back on track. We'll also try to get creative with you and make a game-day decision about where to cut a bit of time and still capture the day in a way that doesn't sacrifice your wedding day vision.

Should I get a wedding coordinator?

A good coordinator can make the different between a smooth day and a hectic day. We would highly recommend considering a coordinator no matter the size of your celebration.

How do I make sure that my vision of the wedding is clearly communicated to you?

When we meet before your wedding day, we specifically ask about this. We try to listen to your vision and let it guide what we focus on for the wedding day. Ultimately communication is the key and the more the merrier!

What if I have a special photo request during the wedding?

We'll do everything we can to accommodate it!

What if my mother has a special photo request during the wedding?

We'll do everything we can to accommodate it!

What if my mother has 100 special requests during the wedding?

Yes, this does tend to happen because family members love photos too. Let's talk about this ahead of time and we'll have a plan going into the wedding on how to try and make everyone happy.

If you've never shot at my wedding venue, do you need to do a walk through ahead of time?

Not usually. We have been very successful by scouting the venues on the wedding day so a separate trip is usually not necessary.
